Update from Pasadena Tenants Union: “Due to this organizing and pressure campaigning, one of the landlords personally dropped off notices rescinding the order to quit.”
PASADENA — ColoradoBoulevard.net:
Over 200 Pasadena tenants have been displaced or are under threat of displacement by a handful of real estate investment firms who are rapidly acquiring buildings, evicting the current tenants, and moving in new tenants at much higher rents.
By News Desk
The Pasadena Tenants Union says that corporate landlords involved are misleading tenants about their legal protections, harassing them daily, and periodically denying basic services like water and electricity.
There are currently 102 housing units which have received misleading 60-day notices to vacate their apartments or have already moved under pressure. These notices are incorrect. They mention that the Pasadena eviction moratorium has expired. But they fail to inform tenants that the LA County COVID-19 Tenant Protections Resolution is still in effect and specifically disallows no-fault evictions in incorporated cities like Pasadena.
Legal experts at the Eviction Defense Network, Public Council and LAFLA have all confirmed that Pasadena renters are protected by the L.A. County Resolution.
These evictions are prohibited until at least December 31, 2022, but management companies continue to mislead and harass tenants into willingly leaving their homes.
