PASADENA – ColoradoBoulevard.net:
On Monday, March 28, the grassroots, tenant-led campaign for rent control and just cause eviction protections will present the City of Pasadena with over 14,000 signatures on their petition to place a charter amendment on the November 2022 ballot.

The campaign has mobilized 275 volunteers and worked daily for six months to gather signatures. Using the best public health precautions available, volunteers met neighbors in public places and at their homes. The reception was overwhelmingly positive from the community, according to organizers.
The coalition feels optimistic about the passage of the charter amendment:
With Pasadena rents up by 11% since the start of the pandemic (Apartment List Report, March 2022) and the Black and Latino population declining, it is clear that the runaway cost of rent is destroying the fabric of the community we love. The charter amendment the coalition has worked tirelessly on for 5 years will protect tenants while allowing landlords to make a profit as guaranteed by the California State Constitution.
The campaign organizers will hold a press conference on the steps of Pasadena City Hall on Monday, March 28 at 3:00 pm before they submit the signatures. Pasadena City Councilmember Jess Rivas, and Brandon Lamar, a tenant and candidate for City Council, are expected to join campaign chairperson and Executive Director at Affordable Housing Services, Michelle White at the conference.
Formed in 2019, the Pasadena Tenant Justice Coalition is a ballot initiative committee comprised of several organizations working to codify rent control.
