The tenant-led campaign for rent control and just cause eviction protections for the City of Pasadena secured a major endorsement this week from District 5 Councilmember, Jess Rivas. Rivas is the first councilmember to formally endorse the campaign.

The campaign has also received endorsements from dozens of local organizations such as the National Union of Healthcare Workers as well as community leaders, including District 4 Pasadena Unified School District board member, Tina Fredericks; former Pasadena city councilmember, Jacque Robinson-Bailey; former Pasadena mayor Rick Cole; as well as two candidates for Pasadena city council, Brandon Lamar (District 3) and Jason Lyon (District 7).
“We are gratified to have the support of well-respected Pasadena leaders such Councilmember Rivas, Tina Fredericks, and so many others,” said campaign volunteer Ryan Bell. “People from all parts of the community have really pulled together around the signatures gathering effort which is now just about over. The campaign has mobilized over 260 individual volunteers, many of whom have repeatedly volunteered to walk door-to-door or talk to folks in public places to gather signatures.”
With less than two weeks left before the March 28th deadline to submit all signatures to the city clerk, the campaign believes they have gathered the required 13,336 valid signatures. “We’re going to press as hard as we can for the remaining days,” said campaign coordinator August Busch. “We need to get as many signatures as possible, just to make sure we don’t fall short.”
The campaign is planning a press conference on March 28 at 3:00 pm, just before turning over signatures to the city clerk.
