The Pasadena Public Library will launch a new online catalog, Vega Discover, on September 10, 2026, offering patrons a smoother, faster and more accessible library experience both in person and online.

The catalog upgrade will take place from September 1 through 9 during a “freeze” period in the current system. The new catalog will feature a modern, cross-device design; improved discovery of books, movies and digital content; smoother connections to digital services; personalized highlights and reading suggestions; and clearer navigation.
During the freeze period, patrons will still be able to search the catalog, check out physical items, borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks, and use online research databases and eMedia services.
Some services will be temporarily unavailable. Patrons will not be able to place new holds, renew items, request interlibrary loans, receive automated email or text notices, or sign up for a new library card.
The library recommends that patrons prepare for the transition before September 1. Existing lists in the current catalog should be exported or printed by August 31. After the new catalog launches, patrons will be able to rebuild their lists and may opt in to saving their reading history in their accounts.
During the migration period, patrons are encouraged to use the Libby, Hoopla or CloudLibrary apps to check out eMaterials rather than the online catalog. Due dates and library cards expiring during the migration window will be automatically extended, allowing patrons to continue using eMedia services.
Library staff will be available at local branches, by phone and online to assist with checkouts, renewals and questions. Further information is available in the library’s FAQs.
