The Pasadena Police Department has announced a delay in the public release of video footage related to a March 2, 2026, officer-involved shooting, identified as Pasadena Case PA2026-17113.
By News Desk
According to officials, the delay is due to the ongoing investigation and the condition of the officer involved, who sustained life-threatening injuries during the incident. The officer required extended hospitalization and, although now discharged, continues to recover while receiving medical treatment. Authorities confirmed the officer has not yet been interviewed, a key step in the investigative process.
Under California law, including Assembly Bill 748 (AB 748) and Senate Bill 1421 (SB 1421), law enforcement agencies are required to release audio and video recordings of critical incidents, such as officer-involved shootings, within 45 days. However, the law allows for an extension if releasing the material could interfere with an active investigation.
Citing these provisions, the Pasadena Police Department stated it is exercising its authority to postpone the release. Officials said the video will be withheld until investigators determine that its disclosure will not compromise the integrity of the case.
“The Pasadena Police Department remains committed to transparency and understands the community’s interest in reviewing the available footage,” said Chief Gene Harris. “However, the release of the video must be carefully coordinated with the ongoing investigation and reviewed in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.”
The case remains under active review, with investigators continuing to assess evidence, including video recordings, witness statements, and forensic findings.
Police said an update on the video’s release will be provided once it is deemed appropriate. In the meantime, authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477), via the P3 Tips mobile app, or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
