Pasadena Police Chief Gene Harris recently served as a facilitator at the 29th Annual National Gang Crime Research Center (NGCRC) International Gang Specialist Training Conference in Chicago, joining law enforcement professionals, prosecutors, educators, gang intervention specialists and public safety leaders from across the United States.

The annual conference, recognized as a major gathering focused on gang and violence prevention, featured more than 100 educational sessions covering gang prevention, investigations, prosecution, violence intervention, school safety, probation and parole, victim services and community engagement.
The conference also provided participants with opportunities to exchange ideas, discuss emerging trends and develop strategies to address public safety challenges.
Harris participated in discussions with professionals working to reduce violence, strengthen community partnerships and improve public safety. His participation reflects the Pasadena Police Department’s emphasis on professional development, collaboration and continued learning.
“Effective policing requires us to continually learn from one another and adapt to the evolving needs of the communities we serve,” Harris said. “Opportunities to collaborate with public safety professionals from across the country allow us to share ideas, strengthen partnerships and bring valuable knowledge back to Pasadena.”
The Pasadena Police Department said collaboration beyond local jurisdictions is an important part of strengthening its approach to public safety. By participating in national training conferences and sharing practices with agencies across the country, department leaders can gain new knowledge and explore approaches that may benefit the Pasadena community.
Harris’ participation in the Chicago conference highlights the department’s efforts to engage with public safety professionals nationwide while continuing to develop its practices and serve Pasadena.
