Pasadena police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in late January, authorities announced.

Everett Johnson, 28, was taken into custody without incident the morning after the shooting and is now facing multiple felony charges, including murder. A firearm was recovered at the time of his arrest, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
The arrest stems from a shooting reported on January 28, 2026, at approximately 7:02 p.m. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired near the intersection of El Molino Avenue and Eldora Road. A ShotSpotter alert directed officers to the area outside 389 Ashtabula Street, where they located expended cartridge casings, confirming a shooting had occurred.
Shortly after officers arrived at the scene, a local hospital notified police that a gunshot victim had been dropped off at the emergency room. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim later died from his injuries. He was identified as Jose Garcia, 42.
Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and determined that several male subjects had been standing on Ashtabula Street when a minivan carrying two additional individuals stopped nearby. Following a brief interaction, one of the males on the street allegedly produced a handgun and fired approximately 13 rounds at the minivan, striking Garcia, who was seated in the front passenger seat. All individuals involved fled the scene, and Garcia was transported to the hospital by unknown parties.
The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Monday, February 2. Prosecutors filed the following charges against Johnson:
- Penal Code 187(a) – Murder
- Penal Code 245(a)(2) – Assault with a Firearm
- Penal Code 29800(a)(1) – Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
Johnson’s bail was set at $3 million.
