The City of Pasadena announced that it has received authorization from the Los Angeles County Superior Court to inspect tree removal activity at John Muir High School after alleging that the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) continued removing trees despite posted stop-work orders.

According to the City, officials made multiple attempts to reach a cooperative resolution with PUSD over the removal of trees at several district sites. However, the City alleges that tree removal continued at multiple locations in violation of the stop-work orders.
The court granted the City an inspection warrant authorizing officials to inspect John Muir High School. City officials said inspections will begin July 10 with a certified arborist to determine which trees are protected and assess the extent of any damage or removals.
The City said it plans to complete the inspections as quickly as possible while supporting the goal of returning students to a safe campus.
Officials said the City has sought to work cooperatively with PUSD throughout the process while carrying out the required inspections. They added that the health and safety of students and the public remain the City’s highest priority and that compliance with municipal rules and laws is necessary to protect public safety and welfare.
