To commemorate the Pasadena Society of Artists’ (PSA) Centennial Anniversary, the Pasadena Museum of History is hosting a special exhibition, 100 Years – 100 Images, until September 14, 2025.

      By News Desk

This landmark exhibition honors PSA’s rich history, showcasing both historic and contemporary works by the Society’s talented members.

Spanning a century of artistic achievement, the exhibition features a blend of retrospective and juried pieces, offering a unique glimpse into the evolution of art in Pasadena. Highlights include works by PSA’s founding artists—Benjamin Brown, Marion Wachtel, and Orrin White—as well as contributions from early members like Walther Askin, Jae Carmichael, and Jirayr Zorthian. Additionally, the exhibition includes a juried display of artwork by current PSA members, presented in two successive groups: February 28 to June 1 and June 5 to September 14, 2025.

The juried component of the exhibition highlights the exceptional talent within the Society, with awards selected by acclaimed painter and juror Michael Obermeyer. The winners include:

      • Awards of Merit:

        • Art Carrillo – Mariposa Queen
        • Tsvetelina Valkov – Missing
        • Ken Weintrub – Square Series #40
      • Honorable Mention:

        • Cyndi Bemel – Offering Light
        • Chuka Susan Chesney – Marilyn Huckleberry
        • Kevin McCants – Rodeo Clown
      • The Yoko Cohen Memorial Award:

        • Harriet Sherry – Blue Hamsa
      • The James Ackley McBride Landscape Award:

        • Roger Dolin – Deukmajian Shoji

Founded in 1925 by fifteen charter members, the Pasadena Society of Artists has long been a cornerstone of the local art community, providing a platform for professional artists to showcase their work. Today, the Society continues to thrive, with 125 active members and several juried exhibitions organized throughout the year.

100 Years – 100 Images is a testament to the enduring legacy of PSA and its members. The exhibition is available for viewing both in-person at the Pasadena Museum of History and online at pasadenasocietyofartists.org. A printed catalog is also available for purchase.
