On May 8, 2025, a 40-year-old Pasadena resident, was convicted of three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years, under Penal Code 288(a), with a special allegation under PC 667.61(J)(2)/(E).

      By News Desk

In August 2023, Pasadena Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) initiated a sexual assault investigation and detectives quickly identified 40-year-old Pasadena resident Alvaro Maldonado Deza, as the suspect of the assault.

On June 26, 2024, SVU detectives Deza and a search of his electronic devices revealed thousands of items of child pornography, as well as videos of his sexual assaults on numerous other juveniles and sexual acts done while remote viewing with juveniles. SVU detectives, one of which is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, worked to investigate these crimes and identify as many victims as possible. Victims were identified in several different states throughout the country, and detectives believe there are additional victims living abroad.

On July 10, 2024, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Deza with 8 counts of lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14 years. All eight charges were accompanied by the additional allegation of PC 667.61(J)(2)/(E), which lists the punishment as imprisonment in the state prison for 25 years to life. Deza’s bail was set at $1,800,000.

On May 8, 2025, Deza was sentenced to 23 years to life in state prison following a plea deal. The case is also under review by the United States Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241. To remain anonymous, you can submit a tip through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS (8477), using the “P3 Tips” mobile app available on Google Play or the Apple App Store, or by visiting lacrimestoppers.org
