Books, games, science, magic and imagination are all part of the journey as Pasadena Public Library launches its annual Summer Reading Program, running from June 13 through August 1.

Open to readers of all ages, this year’s program, themed “On the Road to Reading,” celebrates the 100th anniversary of historic Route 66 while encouraging community members to explore reading, learning and fun throughout the summer.
Participants can register online or at any of Pasadena’s 10 branch libraries. Over the course of seven weeks, children, teens and adults will complete reading challenges, fill out BINGO cards and follow a Route 66-inspired attractions map designed to make reading an adventure.
Library officials say summer reading programs help children maintain academic skills during school breaks while promoting lifelong learning and strengthening community connections.
The Route 66-themed experience features a packed schedule of special performances and hands-on activities at branches across the city.
The journey begins June 13 at Jefferson Branch Library with Music Time with Mr. Michael, an interactive live music program featuring songs inspired by artists ranging from The Beatles to Sesame Street favorites. Just days later, young crafters can create Route 66-themed fuse bead projects at Santa Catalina Branch Library.
Throughout the summer, families can enjoy a wide variety of events, including folk tales and music at Lamanda Park Branch Library, a Harry Potter-inspired LEGO engineering challenge at Hill Avenue Branch Library, glow-in-the-dark road sign crafts, road trip-themed bingo, and a comedy-filled magic show by David Skale at San Rafael Branch Library.
Additional highlights include puppet performances, giant bubble demonstrations, dinosaur-themed adventures, and science shows exploring everything from air pressure to hot-air balloons.
One of the season’s featured events will be Zany Zoë Magic on July 25 at Allendale Branch Library. The entertainer, known for appearances on “America’s Got Talent” and Hollywood’s Magic Castle, will bring audience participation, comedy and interactive magic to the program.
The summer concludes Aug. 1 with the End of Summer Bash at Jefferson Branch Library. The celebration will feature games, a Ballet Folklorico performance, refreshments and an opportunity for participants to redeem their Summer Reading Club prizes.
The Summer Reading Program is sponsored by The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library.
Residents are encouraged to make frequent stops along their “Road to Reading” this summer and discover the many ways the library combines education, creativity and community engagement for readers of every age.
