Beginning in June 2026, the Pasadena Fire Department, in partnership with the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), is distributing free National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Alert Radios to help residents stay informed during emergencies, including wildfires, earthquakes, severe weather, and other hazards.

The initiative is designed to strengthen household preparedness by providing residents with a reliable source of emergency information that operates 24 hours a day. Unlike cell phones or internet-based alerts, NOAA Weather Alert Radios function independently of local power, cellular networks, and internet service, making them a dependable backup communication tool when traditional infrastructure is unavailable.
The radios receive life-safety alerts issued by the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management for fast-moving wildfires, earthquakes, severe weather, and other emergencies, providing timely information when it matters most.
Pasadena residents can apply to receive a free weather alert radio by completing the city’s online registration form. Because supplies are limited, priority will be given to households located in High Fire Hazard Severity Zones and areas that experience unreliable cell service or frequent power outages.
Once registrations have been processed, eligible residents will be notified of a designated date, time, and location to pick up their radio. Distribution is limited to one weather alert radio per household.
City officials encourage residents to take advantage of the program as part of their overall emergency preparedness efforts, helping ensure they receive critical emergency alerts when they are needed most.
