The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of a strong storm system that has arrived in the Pasadena area. It may last through Sunday, Feb. 26. The system includes strong winds, cold temperatures and persistent rain. There is potential for tree damage and power outages as well as travel disruptions.

Rain is expected to begin Thursday, with total precipitation over the weekend reaching 3-4 inches. The heaviest rain is expected Friday into Saturday. Greater hourly rain rates and possible snowfall are expected north of Pasadena in the foothills.
With the expected heavy rains, residents are advised to stay clear of all waterways and flood channels. With the assistance of the police department, Pasadena Fire Department will be patrolling flood channels, evacuating and encouraging individuals to stay away, and providing other assistance as necessary.
Residents are encouraged to prepare now for inclement weather:
- Secure outdoor objects that may blow away.
- Register for the Pasadena Local Emergency Alert System (PLEAS) to receive text and/or voice emergency notifications.
- Refrain from unnecessary driving. If you must drive in the rain, allow extra travel time, use caution and slow down.
Free sandbags
Free sand and sandbags are available for pickup at Pasadena Fire Station 37, 3430 E. Foothill Blvd., and Station 38, 1150 Linda Vista Ave. The limit is 10 bags per resident. Fire personnel are available to assist with loading if they’re not responding to a call.
Emergencies
Residents and businesses with any power emergencies should call the Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) Department at (626) 744-4673. For water-related emergencies, call (626) 744-4138. PWP customers are also encouraged to sign up for utility outage notifications. Contact the Citizen Service Center to report downed trees or debris cleanup.
