Pasadena’s Rent Stabilization Department will host its next “Chats & Snacks with a Housing Counselor” event from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Friday, Aug. 28, at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave.

The free public event will bring together the Rent Stabilization Department, Friends In Deed, the Housing Rights Center and the City of Pasadena Department of Housing at one community location. Residents will have an opportunity to learn about housing services, programs and resources available throughout Pasadena.
The Rent Stabilization Department will provide information about Pasadena’s rent stabilization laws, including tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities, rent increases, petitions, rental registration and other rental housing matters.
The Department of Housing will provide information about affordable housing, rental assistance, Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) services and other City programs designed to help residents access and maintain stable housing.
Representatives from the Housing Rights Center will offer free landlord-tenant and fair housing counseling, including assistance with housing discrimination concerns and disability-related reasonable accommodations and modifications.
Friends In Deed will provide information about community-based support for individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, housing instability or homelessness, including food assistance and other supportive services.
The event will begin with brief presentations from representatives of the participating organizations and Rent Stabilization Department staff. The presentations will introduce each organization’s work and highlight services and resources available to the community.
Following the presentations, attendees can speak one-on-one with representatives, ask questions, receive personalized guidance and learn where to turn for additional assistance.
“We’re very happy to see how Chats & Snacks has continued to grow with each event,” said Helen Morales, director of the Rent Stabilization Department. “What started as a way to bring Housing Counselors directly into the community is evolving into an opportunity to connect residents with an even broader range of housing resources.”
Morales said bringing the organizations together allows residents to receive a more complete picture of available support, whether they are facing housing instability, have questions about housing rights or want to learn about rental assistance and affordable housing opportunities.
No registration or appointment is required. Complimentary coffee and snacks will be provided, and Rent Stabilization Department Housing Counselors will be available to assist in both English and Spanish.
Community members may drop in at any time during the event. Those who want to hear the brief presentations are encouraged to arrive at the beginning.
