The City of Pasadena held its 13th annual Police and Fire Memorial Service on Thursday, May 8, to honor the bravery and sacrifice of local law enforcement and fire personnel who died in the line of duty. The solemn event took place at Centennial Square in front of City Hall, in recognition of National Police Week.

The service, which began at 10:00 am, was attended by a gathering of city officials, police and fire personnel, as well as community members. This year’s event marked a poignant tribute to Pasadena’s fallen heroes, with a focus on the continuing sacrifice made by those who serve the public.
Mayor Victor M. Gordo opened the ceremony with remarks recognizing the critical role of first responders in safeguarding the community. The service featured a number of moving tributes. Police Chief Eugene Harris and Deputy Fire Chief Anthony James also spoke, each emphasizing the deep sense of duty that drives Pasadena’s police and fire departments. The ceremony was further marked by a powerful presentation of colors by the U.S. Marine Color Guard and musical performances by the Mayfield Women’s Ensemble, directed by Andrew Alvarez. The ensemble performed both the United States National Anthem and “America the Beautiful,” setting a reverent tone for the event.
Thomas Harkin performed a moving bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace,” while the Pasadena Fire Department conducted the ceremonial ringing of the bells—an enduring symbol of remembrance for those who have given their lives in service.
A highlight of the ceremony was the public reading of the names and years of passing of fallen officers and firefighters, a deeply personal tribute for their families and loved ones. Seven Pasadena police officers and thirteen firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty. Many of their family members were present at the memorial, a testament to the enduring impact of these losses and the shared commitment to honoring their sacrifice.
