The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) has ceased its mobile laundry, shower, and other essential services for individuals experiencing homelessness as of Friday, March 21, marking the end of grant funding that supported the initiative since 2020.

Manuel Carmona, Director of Public Health, explained that these services were part of the Geriatric Empowerment Model (GEM) Link and Transition Aged Youth (TAY) Link programs, both funded initially by grants from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, with ongoing support through a Congressionally Directed Spending grant from Congresswoman Judy Chu. With the conclusion of this funding, these critical services will no longer be available at this location.
Over the years, the PPHD provided vital hygiene services to individuals experiencing homelessness in Northwest Pasadena. In the past year alone, these services resulted in 2,508 showers, 1,054 loads of laundry, and 4,461 hot meals, all aimed at preserving dignity and offering pathways to more comprehensive care, including case management and housing navigation.
The closure of services at Fair Oaks marks a significant loss for the community. However, PPHD will continue to support individuals through outreach and engagement efforts via the PORT and UMHP programs, both of which continue to provide field-based support to help individuals access resources and medical care. PPHD is actively seeking new funding to ensure the continuation of homelessness services across Pasadena.
