Pasadena High School (PHS) and the adjacent Focus Point Academy (FPA) were placed on lockdown today while police searched for a firearm on campus.
By News Desk
As soon as the presence of a firearm was reported to staff this morning, school safety protocols were immediately initiated and the entire campus was placed on lockdown. Students and staff remained in locked classrooms for their own safety.
Pasadena law enforcement responded immediately and questioned the student who was supposed to have hidden the weapon. A canine unit was brought in and after a thorough search, lasting several hours, police located what they determined to be an airsoft (plastic pellet) gun modeled to look like an actual handgun. The lockdown was lifted once police confirmed that the threat to students and staff was not credible.
PHS Principal Mathew Kodama, Ed.D. said:
We want to thank our partners in the Pasadena Police Department for their excellent work and support of our students’ safety during this scenario. We also appreciate the patience and understanding of our parents as our partners in law enforcement completed their work. The safety of our students and community is always our top priority.
School staff regularly practice lockdown procedures and emergency drills for sheltering in place. Pasadena High School counselors and administrators will be available as needed throughout the week to support students and parents.
