Pasadena’s beloved Tournament of Roses took a paw-some twist on Saturday, December 13, as the current Tournament of Roses Princesses crowned the Queen of Tail Town’s Royal Catnip Court.

      By Rena Kurlander

This annual event, now in its third year, saw Fiskars, a 14-month resident of Tail Town Cat Café, take the crown and claim her reign for the upcoming year.

The event, held at Tail Town’s cozy location at 1780 E. Washington Blvd in Pasadena, brought together cat lovers and community members for a one-of-a-kind celebration of feline royalty. Fiskars, who had been vying for the coveted title through public voting since December 1, emerged victorious after an exciting, month-long contest that concluded just before noon on December 13.

Tail Town’s Royal Kitty Catnip Court is an initiative designed to highlight adoptable adult cats who often don’t receive as much attention as their younger counterparts. As part of the annual event, the community was invited to vote for the cat they thought most deserving of the title, who would go on to “rule the roost” at the popular Pasadena cat café for the year 2026.

The coronation ceremony featured a special appearance by the Tournament of Roses Princesses, who not only crowned Queen Fiskars but also spent time playing with, brushing, and caring for the café’s adoptable cats and kittens. Tail Town’s Executive Director, Gwendolyn Mathers, shared that Fiskars won by a landslide, capturing the hearts of the public and securing her position as Queen of the Royal Catnip Court.

iskars, clearly thrilled by her victory, made her triumphant declaration from the dais, adorned with the Kitty Catnip Royalty tiara. “I fought each and every one of these contestants to make it to the top!” Fiskars said in her signature spunky style. “I will reign as champion, master of the lounge, and the greatest warrior these spectators have ever… What do you mean it’s not that kind of competition!? Whatever. I will still prevail.”

With her victory, Fiskars joins the ranks of previous royalty in Tail Town’s Royal Kitty Catnip Court. Throughout 2026, she will reign over the café, helping to raise awareness and encourage adoptions for the café’s lovable adult cats, who are often overshadowed by younger kittens.

Tail Town’s Royal Kitty Catnip Court is more than just a fun event; it’s a creative way to raise awareness for cats who have been waiting for their forever homes. The café has been dedicated to giving these cats a platform to shine, and the coronation ceremony provided a unique opportunity for the community to come together and show their support for all the feline residents.

As Queen Fiskars begins her reign, Tail Town continues to encourage visitors to stop by, meet the adoptable cats, and possibly take home a new feline friend. After all, in Tail Town, every day is a royal affair!
