The promotion, which took place three months ago, marks the culmination of 19 and a half years of dedicated service to the Pasadena community. Throughout her career, Chief Slicker has built a reputation for leadership, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public safety.
Prior to her promotion, Slicker served nine years as a Captain, where she played a pivotal role in emergency operations, personnel development, and community engagement. Her leadership during this time helped strengthen both the department’s operational readiness and its connection with the community.
Chief Slicker’s trailblazing career includes another historic achievement. In 2023, she became the first woman ever named Firefighter of the Year by the Pasadena Fire Department—an honor that recognized her exceptional service, dedication, and impact within the department.
Her influence extends far beyond emergency response.
Four years ago, Slicker helped launch the department’s Women’s Fire Academy, an outreach initiative designed to inspire and mentor young women interested in careers in the fire service. The program has since become a meaningful pathway for representation, introducing more women in the community to opportunities in firefighting and public safety.
Even on her days off, Chief Slicker continues to give back to the profession. She works with the Santa Ana College Fire Academy, mentoring and preparing the next generation of firefighters as they begin their careers.
Outside the firehouse, Slicker enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors, maintaining the physical strength and resilience that the profession demands.
As communities across the nation celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, Chief Slicker’s story stands as a powerful reminder of how leadership, service, and mentorship can open doors for future generations.
