City leaders say aging infrastructure, rising construction costs, increasing service demands, and ongoing maintenance needs are placing growing pressure on Pasadena’s ability to maintain the level of service residents expect as the city continues to grow and evolve.
According to recent Public Works infrastructure assessments, Pasadena maintains approximately 357 miles of streets, with an estimated 291 miles currently requiring repair or maintenance. Annual street funding averages about $5.5 million, while unfunded street and sidewalk repair needs are estimated at roughly $125 million.
At the same time, the Pasadena Fire Department is facing increasing emergency call volumes, aging fire stations, and expanding operational demands tied to wildfire preparedness, disaster readiness, emergency medical response, and maintaining fast 911 response times across the city.
City planning efforts have identified several potential long-term Fire Department needs, including modernization and replacement of aging fire stations, additional emergency response staffing and apparatus, expanded capacity to meet increasing service demands, and continued investment to maintain reliable emergency coverage citywide.
Officials emphasized that the current initiative is focused on education, transparency, public engagement, and gathering community feedback before future decisions are made.
The community survey asks residents to share their views on fire and emergency response priorities, wildfire preparedness and disaster readiness, street and sidewalk maintenance needs, and traffic safety and mobility concerns.
Residents are encouraged to complete the online survey and participate in future public discussions intended to help shape Pasadena’s long-term infrastructure and public safety planning priorities. Additional information about upcoming meeting dates is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
