The City of Pasadena has approved a 30-day extension of the public review period for the Arroyo Seco Water Reuse Project Draft Environmental Impact Report to the new date of Saturday, August 1 at 11:59 pm, bringing the total review period to 90 days.

According to the city, the extension was granted in response to significant public interest in the project. The additional time is intended to give interested parties a greater opportunity to review the document and submit comments.
The Arroyo Seco Water Reuse Project is a collaborative effort between the cities of Pasadena and South Pasadena, with Pasadena serving as the lead agency. The project includes improvements at two locations along the Arroyo Seco Channel—the San Rafael and San Pascual sites—and is designed to improve water quality while helping both cities comply with state and federal regulatory requirements.
The selected sites drain approximately 5,005 acres and were chosen because of their proximity to San Rafael Creek and the Arroyo Seco Channel, their potential to treat stormwater pollutants, and opportunities to create or enhance public open space along the Arroyo Seco Trail.
According to the project, dry-weather sampling has identified the San Rafael Creek outfall as a consistent source of bacteria levels exceeding standards established by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board for recreational fresh waters. The project will use nature-based treatment approaches to reduce bacteria flowing into the Arroyo Seco Channel and ultimately the Los Angeles River, while addressing state-mandated water quality requirements.
