New to biking in the city? Thinking about using your bike for errands, commuting, or everyday trips—but not sure where to start?
By Melanie Hooks
A beginner-friendly cycling event aimed at building confidence for city riding will take place on Saturday, May 9 at 9:00 am.
The ‘Beginner’s Bagel Ride’ is a relaxed, 6-mile group ride designed for new or returning cyclists interested in using a bike as a practical alternative to a car. The event includes a stop for a complimentary bagel breakfast and informal instruction along the way.
Participants will learn key skills for everyday riding, including:
- Traffic skills for new riders – How to ride safely in traffic, navigate intersections, and share the road with cars.
- Carrying what you need – Easy ways to bring groceries, work gear, or everyday items on your bike.
- How to lock your bike – Tips for keeping your bike secure at stores, work, or on the street.
- Everyday riding tips – What to wear, how to choose routes, and other small details that make a big difference.
This is a beginner-friendly, no-drop ride (no one gets left behind) at a slow, social pace. Think of it as a rolling workshop—with bagels.
Come for the bagels, stay for the skills, and leave with the confidence to ride more often.
