Participants explore growth after adversity as free in-person workshops open after their pandemic shutdown.
By News Desk
TA’YER, a community arts organization based in Pasadena, is resuming live performances after nearly two-years of COVID closures. A series of workshops aim to help participants tell their personal stories of growth and transformation after struggle, a timely topic as we begin to re-open after the long pandemic shutdown. The bilingual (English/Spanish) workshops are free and open to all.
The workshops will feature visuals, dance, and creative writing classes for participants of all ages. The workshops are centered around the theme of the “quinceañera”, the Latino coming-of-age celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday and her transition from childhood to adulthood.
Fernando D. Castro, President of TA’YER, said:
The pandemic was our coming-of-age moment. We will never be the same again. As we come out into the world again, the quinceañera metaphor recognizes both the struggle and the joy of growing-up, overcoming adversity and crossing an important coming-of-age moment. TA’YER welcomes the opportunity to use the arts as a source of inspiration and better times to come.
TA’YER is partnering with the Pasadena/Altadena Coalition of Transformative Leaders to offer the workshops. The multidisciplinary workshops include a combination of theater arts, music, dance and creative writing to help participants sift through their personal experiences. The workshops will culminate with live performances.
