A Pasadena-based Law Office, Gronemeier & Hickambottom (LOGH,) has given $3,000 each to 11 Pasadena Area organizations.

At a press conference on the steps of Pasadena City Hall on Monday, Oct. 12, LOGH Partner Elbie J. Hickambottom said the $33,000 in unrestricted grants were pursuant to the law firm’s practice of tithing on large attorneys’ fees recoveries, with a special emphasis in these grants on affordable housing and tenants rights.
The 11 organizations that Gronemeier and Hickambottom supported, are the following:
- Pasadena Tenants Justice Coalition (PTJC).
- The National Day Laborers Organizing Network (NDLON).
- Pasadenans Organizing for Progress (POP!).
- Making Housing and Community Happen.
- LWV-PA, the local chapter of the national League of Women Voters.
- The Pasadena Branch of the National Association of Colored People (NAACP), of the century-old national organization fighting for the rights of people of color. Mr. Hickambottom is a member of the NAACP Branch executive board; Mr. Gronemeier as a pro bono attorney represented the NAACP Branch in the 1979-1982.
- Pasadena Affordable Housing Coalition (PAHC).
- ACT, a grass-roots Pasadena-area organization.
- Planned Parenthood Advocates, Pasadena branch.
- Flintridge Center.
- Pasadenans Empowering Parental Participation in Educational Governance (PEPPEG).
LOGH and its predecessor Gronemeier firms have generated funds for progressive organizations and causes from litigation recoveries beginning in 1982 when Mr. Gronemeier was the lead counsel for the Southern California American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in the challenge to Pasadena’s at-large elections system.
More recently, an attorneys’ fee award for the firm’s challenge to the Altadena Library Board which involved violations of the Brown Act and the Public Records Act law led to unrestricted grants to a number of Pasadena area progressive organizations (some of which are also receiving the current grants).
