Local leaders and Pasadena City College officials will gather Tuesday, June 11, at 12 noon on the PCC main Campus to celebrate the college becoming the first AGZA-certified “Green Zone” in the City of Pasadena.

The distinction, which is overseen by the American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA), is awarded to institutions that transition to using solely low-noise, zero-emission, battery-electric equipment for all landscaping and grounds operations. PCC has achieved the Level 2 certification standard.
To earn the certification, PCC Facilities management and staff attended several community workshops and took steps to understand the different workload demands of gas and electric equipment. The team partnered with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and AGZA to test tools and conduct education. The college also participated in the SCAQMD Electric Lawn & Garden program, trading in old gas equipment for new battery electric alternatives at nearly an 80 percent cost reduction.
At Tuesday’s event, representatives from PCC will highlight the program and its implementation at the college. Dignitaries from SCAQMD and AGZA will speak about the benefits to the college and the community, and there will be static displays of AGZA-certified groundskeeping equipment.
