[UPDATED] Pasadena Changing of the Guard: Ceremonial Swearing-In of Newly Elected Mayor and Councilmembers

On Monday, December 7 at noon, the Pasadena City Clerk will submit the election results of the November 3, 2020 General Municipal Election to the City Council.

The election results will be adopted by resolution and thus the terms for Mayor Terry Tornek and Councilmember McAustin will end; there will be presentations and recognition of service for each.

At 2:00 pm, the City Clerk will administer the Oath of Office to the newly elected and re-elected Councilmembers: Felicia Williams, Tyron Hampton, Gene Masuda, and Steve Madison. The swearing in will be conducted in accordance with COVID related protocols and is subject to modifications, according to Lisa Derderian, City’s spokesperson.  City Clerk will administer the Oath of Office both in person (on the steps of City Hall) and virtually via Zoom to the Councilmembers.

Thereafter, the Oath of Office for newly elected Pasadena Mayor, Victor M. Gordo will be administered by The Hon. William A. Crowfoot, Judge, Superior Court of California, for the County of Los Angeles, a former Vice Mayor of Pasadena and former Pasadena City Councilmember representing District 5. Judge Crowfoot will administer the Oath of Office to the new mayor in person on the steps of City Hall.

Additionally, per the City Charter, at “its organizational meeting, the City Council shall elect from among the Councilmembers a Vice Mayor who shall exercise the powers and perform the duties of the Mayor during the latter’s absence or disability.” The newly elected Vice Mayor will serve the term covering the period of December 7, 2020 to December 12, 2022.

The events will take place at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Avenue, Pasadena 91101. Due to COVID restrictions, limited guests will observe from their cars by invite only. Both events will be shown live on KPAS channel.
