Pasadena Authorities Seize 10,000 Pounds of Illegal Fireworks, Arrest Four

Pasadena authorities seized approximately 10,000 pounds of illegal explosive fireworks and made four arrests following a recent investigation that also uncovered suspected homemade explosives, marijuana products, and an unregistered firearm, according to city officials.

The seizure stems from a search warrant executed June 19 by the Pasadena Fire Department’s Arson Investigation Team and the Pasadena Police Department’s Street Crime Unit at a property located at 6316 Whittier Blvd. in the City of Los Angeles.

Officials said the investigation led authorities to a location where illegal explosive fireworks were allegedly being stored for distribution throughout Los Angeles and cities in the San Gabriel Valley.

During the execution of the search warrant, investigators discovered what officials described as homemade explosive devices. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and collected the devices.

In addition to the fireworks, authorities reported seizing a large quantity of marijuana products, an unregistered firearm with high-capacity magazines, and documents that investigators say indicate the sale of illegal fireworks.

According to officials, the fireworks and related materials have an estimated resale value exceeding $120,000.

Four individuals were arrested as a result of the investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those arrested or the specific charges they may face.

Investigators believe the case may be connected to a criminal street gang enterprise that allegedly smuggles fireworks into California from Nevada. The investigation remains ongoing.

City officials are scheduled to provide additional details during a press conference at 9:30 am Tuesday at Pasadena City Hall. Scheduled speakers include Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, Fire Chief Chad Augustin, Police Chief Gene Harris, and representatives from assisting agencies.
