Mt. Wilson will share its slopes this Friday night with the Los Angeles Astronomical Society (LAAS), which will host one of its popular free Star Parties beginning at sunset.

On Friday, August 7, head up the mountain—all 5,700 feet of it—for a 7:00 pm gate opening. LAAS volunteers will guide stargazers to the upper parking lot, where free telescopes will be available throughout the evening. Experienced guides will be on hand to help visitors explore the night sky until 1:00 am.
No reservations are required—just a desire to explore the stars and a red flashlight to use around the telescopes.
Organizers note that children are welcome, but canine companions are best left at home.
Other events on the mountain this month include Jazz Night with Tom Rainier on August 9; a screening of E.T. on August 15 (sold out); Talk and Telescopes with celestial artist Lita Albuquerque on August 22; presentations by sound and space artist Michael Brewster on August 29 and 30; and Behind-the-Scenes Engineering Tours on August 8 and 30.
