          LATEST ON THE STORM::

          The storm, weakened from a Category 3 storm to a Category 2, may pour a year’s worth of rain on parts of the Southwest as it advances towards California, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is still a major hurricane moving with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. Moving faster than expected, the storm is now moving at 17 mph. It is expected to be downgraded to tropical storm status by the time it reaches our area.

          STATE OF EMERGENCY::

          Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency on Saturday for a large portion of Southern California.
          A press release read: “Today, Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for much of Southern California to support Hurricane Hilary response and recovery efforts as the state continues mobilizing and coordinating resources ahead of the storm’s forecasted impacts starting today.”

          NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE::

          Parts of Southern California could see 3 to 6 inches of rain and as many as 10 inches in some places. Strong winds and rain will begin far in advance of the storm arrival, according to the National Weather Service.
