Officials are warning residents to brace for a ‘rare and dangerous’ storm. If you must drive in the rain, the CHP advises the following:
- The Huntington will be closed to the public on Sunday, Aug. 20 and Monday, Aug. 21. If you have reservations, contact tickets@huntington.org to rebook or for a refund.
- Descanso Gardens will be closed Sunday, August 20, and Monday, August 21, and wishes that all residents stay safe as Hurricane Hilary approaches Southern California.
- The Mount Wilson Observatory grounds will be closed Sunday, August 20 and Monday August 21.

Catalina Island urged vulnerable residents and visitors to leave ahead of Hilary's arrival.
The storm, weakened from a Category 3 storm to a Category 2, may pour a year’s worth of rain on parts of the Southwest as it advances towards California, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is still a major hurricane moving with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. Moving faster than expected, the storm is now moving at 17 mph. It is expected to be downgraded to tropical storm status by the time it reaches our area.
