    Good morning,

    • Hilary has been downgraded to tropical storm.
    • The storm prediction upgraded the tornado risk to 5% for parts of Southern California.
    • The San Bernadino County Sheriff has issued an evacuation order for communities in the San Bernadino hills.
    • State and County parks are temporarily closed.
    • Many local churches are urging their congregations to stay home and attend worship via livestream. Check with your local house of worship for the latest update.

    • Stock your home and your car with supplies.
    • Check your disaster plan: It's always recommended to create a family disaster plan for emergencies.
    • Prepare to evacuate: Never ignore an evacuation order.
    • Protect older adults: Understand older adult health and medical concerns.
    • Protect your pets: Ensure your pet’s safety before, during, and after a hurricane.

    DO NOT DRIVE (UNLESS YOU HAVE TO):

    Officials are warning residents to brace for a ‘rare and dangerous’ storm. If you must drive in the rain, the CHP advises the following:

    • If you find yourself in a "hydroplaning" situation with excess water or flooding on the roads and highways, do not apply the brakes immediately. Instead, take your foot off the accelerator and wait for your vehicle or truck to find traction on the pavement.
    • Give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your destination safely.
    • Turn on your headlights for better visibility and for others on the road to see you.
    • Try to stay in the middle lanes as the outside lanes tend to gather water.
    • Do not attempt to cross flooded roadways. Water depth can be deceiving and the water can impact your breaks.
    • Do not attempt to cross blocked roads. Cones and signs are placed by authorities for a reason.

    LATEST ON THE STORM::

    The storm, weakened from a Category 3 storm to a Category 2, may pour a year’s worth of rain on parts of the Southwest as it advances towards California, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is still a major hurricane moving with maximum sustained winds of 110 miles per hour. Moving faster than expected, the storm is now moving at 17 mph. It is expected to be downgraded to tropical storm status by the time it reaches our area.
