• DO NOT DRIVE (UNLESS YOU HAVE TO)

Officials are warning residents to brace for a ‘rare and dangerous’ storm. If you must drive in the rain, the CHP advises the following:

      • If you find yourself in a “hydroplaning” situation with excess water or flooding on the roads and highways, do not apply the brakes immediately. Instead, take your foot off the accelerator and wait for your vehicle or truck to find traction on the pavement.
      • Give yourself plenty of extra time to reach your destination safely.
      • Turn on your headlights for better visibility and for others on the road to see you.
      • Try to stay in the middle lanes as the outside lanes tend to gather water.
      • Do not attempt to cross flooded roadways. Water depth can be deceiving and the water can impact your breaks.
      • Do not attempt to cross blocked roads. Cones and signs are placed by authorities for a reason.
