The Pasadena Department of Transportation (DOT) is deploying a demonstration of five new solar powered devices, with Text-To-Speech capability, at local bus stops.
By News Desk
These new devices will provide real time bus arrival information at the touch of a button. The Papercast units are different from the devices currently provided at 115 bus stops in Pasadena, in that they also have text-to-speech to assist customers with visual impairments. The locations for these five demonstration devices are among the highest used bus stops in the city.
The five demonstration units will provide real time bus arrival information. They should be permanently installed, over the course of the next several months, at:
- Northbound Lake Avenue and Villa Street
- Northbound Raymond Avenue and Holly Street
- Southbound Fair Oaks Boulevard and Woodbury Road
- Northbound Lake Avenue. and Colorado Boulevard
- Eastbound Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue
This demonstration project is funded by the Caltrans Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP). As part of this project, DOT will collect feedback on how these new units serve transit customer’s needs. Customers will be able to provide feedback via a survey at (click here). A QR code and the link will also be on every Papercast unit. The survey feedback will assist in determining the effectiveness of these new devices, as well as informing the potential installation of future devices in Pasadena.
