At the Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA) meeting on Wednesday, January 22, a motion was introduced and unanimously approved to prioritize housing for communities affected by the recent wildfires.

The motion, co-authored by Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger, Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, and Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, calls for dedicated support to wildfire survivors in the development of new housing across the county.
Chair Barger issued a statement following the vote, emphasizing the urgent need for action. “Residents whose lives were stable just two weeks ago have been completely upended by these wildfires. To lose your home overnight is unthinkable,” Barger remarked. “Wildfire survivors deserve both short-term and long-term support, and this motion helps deliver exactly that.”
As part of the motion, LACAHSA’s five-year housing development plan and strategic funding plan will now give top priority to areas impacted by the recent fires. Barger further expressed her commitment to ensuring that both renters and property owners affected by the wildfires receive the necessary support to rebuild their homes and communities.
“I’m very pleased that, as a result of this motion, LACAHSA’s housing plans will prioritize support for wildfire survivors,” Barger continued. “As we rebuild and restore our communities, I’m committed to finding and allocating every resource possible, partnering with cities and public housing authorities to replace what was lost.”
This action marks a critical step in addressing the housing crisis for those who have suffered devastating losses in the wake of the fires, ensuring that rebuilding efforts are both timely and equitable.
