      The Pellissier Village Trailhead, a much-anticipated project, marks a key milestone in the expansion of L.A. County’s multi-use trail network. It will provide both residents and visitors with a scenic, accessible route through some of the region’s most beautiful landscapes.

      Located along the eastern bank of the San Gabriel River, near San Jose Creek and the Rio Hondo River, the trailhead offers direct access to the Schabarum-Skyline Trail, one of the area’s most popular hiking routes. With its sweeping vistas and diverse terrain, the new trailhead will also connect to the county’s longest trail, the San Gabriel River Trail, which spans over 35 miles. Additionally, nearby recreational areas such as the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area and Blackwell Arena will be easily accessible.

      “This new hiking trail is not just a trailhead, but a gateway to outdoor adventure,” said Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis, who marked the official groundbreaking of the project. “The Pellissier Village community has long had an equestrian and outdoor tradition, and this new access point will connect them—and the broader public—to a wide network of trails that offer both recreation and a deeper connection to the natural beauty of the San Gabriel Valley.”

      The trailhead will feature several amenities designed to enhance safety and convenience for trail-goers, including a pedestrian path, benches, horse tie rails, watering troughs, and exercise pens. Interpretive signage will also be installed to offer visitors insights into the history of Pellissier Village and the region’s expansive trail network, providing hikers with a deeper understanding of the area they are exploring.

      Michelle O’Connor, Section Head of Trails Planning for the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, highlighted the project’s role in connecting local communities to regional parks. “This trailhead will provide safer, more accessible routes for hikers, cyclists, and equestrians, contributing to the larger vision of a greenway network that links communities from the San Gabriel Valley all the way to the coast.”

      The Pellissier Village Trailhead is part of the Emerald Necklace Vision Plan, an ambitious initiative designed to connect multiple cities and unincorporated communities across the San Gabriel Valley with a network of trails and green spaces along the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers. Once completed, the plan will stretch to the ocean, offering a unique opportunity for outdoor recreation and ecological preservation.

      Funding for the Pellissier Village Trailhead has been secured through a combination of sources, including over $680,000 in Proposition A discretionary funds and community grants provided by Supervisor Solis, along with additional support from the California Conservation Corps through the Nature-Based Solutions Grant Program.

      Construction is expected to be completed by October 2026. When finished, the Pellissier Village Trailhead will serve as a key entry point to a larger regional trail network, enriching the outdoor experience for hikers, cyclists, and equestrians across Los Angeles County.
