More than 50 residents gathered on a Sunday morning for the inaugural meeting of the Altadena Walk Club, a new community walking group aimed at fostering connection and wellness as the neighborhood continues to recover from the Eaton Fire.

The walk club was founded by Mathew Rahban, a former counselor who supported fire survivors and now serves as community relations director for his family’s construction firm, Rahban Development. The company has been assisting Altadena homeowners with rebuilding efforts following the fire.
Sunday’s event brought together families with children, residents walking their dogs and community members of all ages. Participants met at Unincorporated Coffee before walking through the neighborhood toward Good Neighbor Bar, then returned to the starting point.
Rahban said the walk club was created as part of broader post-fire recovery efforts, with an emphasis on restoring routine and strengthening community bonds.
“After the fire, many people experienced disruption to their routines and daily lives,” Rahban said. “The walk club creates a consistent opportunity for people to get outside, move and reconnect with their neighbors.”
The walk is designed to be accessible and not physically demanding, allowing residents of all ages and fitness levels to participate comfortably.
Organizers announced plans for additional meetups on the third Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am at Unincorporated Coffee in Altadena, beginning March 15. Future walks will feature different routes to keep the experience fresh. Meet-up locations and frequency may change over time.
