On my fourth (I think) birthday, my father asked “Did you feel your legs shoot out in the middle of the night?”

And, yes, I remembered, I had felt that.
By the following year I was too worldly-wise to be taken in by such childish fancies but I don’t suppose a birthday has gone by that I haven’t thought of that story. Today, January 31, is my 91st and imagine my surprise when I took this selfie on the Mt. Lukens fire road this morning.
My old man had been right after all.
