Monterey Park has been awarded $6 million through the California State Parks Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) program to support a major rehabilitation of the Barnes Park Aquatic Center, city officials announced.

The funding will allow the city to modernize and expand the aquatic facility, paving the way for a wider range of competitive, leisure, and recreational programming for residents. Planned improvements aim to enhance community access to high‑quality aquatic amenities and strengthen the park’s role as a central gathering space.
The grant is part of a highly competitive statewide allocation totaling $42.6 million dedicated to expanding outdoor recreation and improving public spaces. Only 18 projects across California were selected for LWCF funding this cycle, placing Barnes Park among a small group of awardees recognized for their community impact.
