Monterey Park Library Invites Readers to “Unearth a Story” This Summer

Digging around the story world is fully encouraged this summer in Monterey Park. They’re even launching the idea this Saturday, June 13, with a burst of percussive energy.

Readers of all ages are invited to take part in the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library’s “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading Program. The program runs from June 13 to August 1, with separate challenges for children (ages 0–13), teens (ages 14–18), and adults (18 and older). Participants will track the number of days they read throughout the summer to earn virtual badges and the chance to win a grand prize of their choice.

Participants can also enjoy a range of free performances inspired by this year’s theme. The program kicks off on June 13 with a high-energy performance by Powerhouse Percussive Dance in the Library Friends Room at 4:00 pm.

Children and families can also enjoy shows on select Wednesdays at 3:30 pm at the Langley Center. Performances include Captain Tall Tale’s Rock ‘n’ Wild Times, an interactive high-energy dance party on June 17; California Joe, the Explorer Magician on July 8; and Doodlebugs Animal Adventures on July 22. These performances, as well as all prizes, are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Monterey Park Library and the Monterey Park Library Foundation.
