If you haven’t visited Monterey Park’s Bruggemeyer Public Library in a while, now is an ideal time, as its latest exhibition, Duty, Honor, Country, Courage: Honoring Asian Americans in Military Service, remains on display through Aug. 31, 2026.

As a special event, exhibition curator Montgomery Hom will lead free guided tours on Saturday, Aug. 8. Tours begin every hour from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm and last approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Registration is required and may be made by calling (626) 307-1368 or visiting the Library Reference Desk.
Between tours, Hom will be available in the library lobby to answer questions and sign copies of his book, Fighting on All Fronts, which will be available for purchase onsite for $25.
The exhibition commemorates 250 years of American independence and features rare military artifacts while highlighting the stories of local Asian American service members. It will remain on display in the library lobby through Aug. 31.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between local Vietnam veteran Peter Chow, founder of the National Organization of Asian American Veterans (NOAAV), and Montgomery Hom, founder of the Chinese American G.I. Project and a curator of historical exhibits at Los Angeles’ Bob Hope Patriotic Hall. Together, they envisioned a national project dedicated to preserving, sharing and honoring the stories of Asian American veterans, past and present.
