A beloved Monrovia tradition reached a major milestone as the Monrovia Unified School District hosted its 20th annual Monrovia Elementary Olympics, bringing together five elementary schools for a morning of spirited competition, teamwork, and community pride.

The event, held Thursday, March 26, from 9:00 am to noon at the Monrovia High School athletic field, marked two decades of school spirit and friendly rivalry. Students from all five district elementary schools competed in more than a dozen athletic events, embracing the Olympic motto Citius, Altius, Fortius—Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger. This year’s theme emphasized unity: “We are faster, higher, and stronger TOGETHER.”
Just ahead of Spring Break, the celebration offered students, staff, and families a joyful sendoff before a well‑earned week of rest and connection.
A large crowd of parents, siblings, and community members filled the stands, cheering on young athletes and honoring the event’s founder, Dana Elliott, a retired teacher and Monrovia parent. Elliott launched the Elementary Olympics twenty years ago and helped rally school teams and staff to build the tradition into the vibrant district-wide celebration it is today.
This year’s honors went to:
- Monroe Elementary — Spirit Award winner
- Mayflower Elementary — Overall event trophy champion
With sunshine, school pride, and endless smiles, the 20th annual Monrovia Elementary Olympics once again showcased the energy and unity that define the district, proving that after twenty years, this community tradition is still going strong.
