In a creative turn true to its literary roots, the nonprofit Underdog Bookstore will host the City’s first-ever Pride Book Festival this Saturday, June 20, 2026, from noon to 6:00 pm.

Subtitled “Books and Barks in the Park,” the event expands the footprint of the queer- and diversity-focused bookshop into Monrovia’s Library Park for a full afternoon of celebration. Attendees can enjoy a vibrant showcase of queer storytelling featuring more than 50 authors and vendors, along with opportunities for community building and free activities for all ages.
The family-friendly festival has already been praised by Monrovia Mayor Becky Shevlin as a landmark addition to the city’s Pride celebrations. Representatives from Underdog Bookstore were also recognized for bringing greater Pride visibility to Monrovia during the SGV Pride Tour Kickoff at Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses headquarters on May 30. Organizers are hoping for a strong turnout at this inaugural event. (The forecast calls for mild, sunny weather.)
Underdog’s mission is to “serve marginalized groups and individuals of all ages and backgrounds. By championing diversity and inclusivity in all our work as a nonprofit, we aspire to build a stronger, more connected community of underdogs.”
