Pasadena Water and Power announced the two winners of the annual Academic Scholarship: Dario Soatto of Polytechnic High School and Anton Perez of Pasadena High School.

      By News Desk

For this year, students were asked to write an essay citing research about the statewide drought, including recommendations on how to preserve the long-term water supply.

      Dario Soatto

Dario Soatto, a senior at Polytechnic School, is the 2023 Pasadena Water and Power Educational Scholarship first-place winner. His essay explored climate change and severe drought, and reflected on actions that individuals, communities, and policymakers can take to lessen the impact of future droughts. Soatto plans to attend Stanford University in the fall to study economics and political science.

      Anton Perez

Anton Perez of Pasadena High School is this year’s second-place winner. He plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he will double-major in mathematics and philosophy. Perez’s  essay focused on local water supply and the importance of prudent water supply management during times of drought.

Each year, PWP chooses two high school seniors from Pasadena for an academic scholarship. First place is awarded $5,000, and second place is awarded $2,500. The program is open to high school seniors who reside in PWP’s service area and plan to enroll as full-time students at accredited post-secondary institutions in the upcoming academic year.

At a time when the City should be community-building by getting White and Asian parents to buy in to PUSD, including kids from divisive private schools in scholarship awards is a sellout move by PWP!
