The Tournament of Roses announced the seven members of the 2027 Royal Court on Monday, September 28.

      By Rena Kurlander

      The selected students are:

      • Evita Bridge — Mayfield Senior School
      • Tessa Choi — La Cañada High School
      • Daniela Guzman — Arcadia High School
      • Irene Maddox — Eagle Rock High School
      • Maria Teresa McDonald — Thurgood Marshall Secondary School
      • Elizabeth Rweyemamu — Polytechnic School
      • Lucy Wendling — San Marino High School

Among the seven honorees is Maria Teresa McDonald of Thurgood Marshall Secondary School, the daughter of former Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Brian McDonald.

Nearly 200 people attended the announcement on the south lawn of Tournament House, including friends and family members of the 28 finalists.

As ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena community and the greater Los Angeles area, the Royal Court members will each receive a $7,500 educational scholarship. The students were selected for their character, service and leadership, demonstrated through their commitment to their families, schools and communities.

The Royal Court will also participate in personal development programs focused on public speaking, presentation skills, self-confidence and etiquette. Members will have opportunities to participate in community activities, contribute positively and connect with local leaders.

The 2027 Royal Court will ride on the Royal Court float during the 138th Rose Parade, presented by Honda, and attend the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl Game, presented by Prudential, on Thursday, January 1, 2027.
