Meet CIS Academy Valedictorian Joshua Tyebkhan

Joshua Tyebkhan is the Valedictorian of the Class of 2024 Center for Independent Study (CIS) Academy.

Attending CIS for his senior year allowed Joshua Tyebkhan, an incredible dancer, to finish his high school education online while pursuing dance at the prestigious School of American Ballet (SAB) in New York City. Dance has played a major role in his life since the age of four, and he is now taking steps to pursue it professionally.

Joshua will remain at the School of American Ballet, SAB, for another year to further his training before auditioning for professional companies. He will also be applying to colleges as another potential path. In addition to being a dedicated dancer, Joshua is a pianist and an artist. Joshua says he greatly appreciates the flexibility of the CIS format and the support he received from his teachers.

His CIS mentor teacher said that Joshua Tyebkhan had exceptionally high grades in his senior online courses, earning 100% and 99% scores in all of them, which included Calculus and Physics!  Joshua was always present for his weekly video check-in meetings and communicated with staff via email very well; his diligence was exemplary. His overall high school weighted GPA was 4.2, and he completed his required senior defense with the highest rating, distinction. Joshua couldn’t attend the graduation, given his courses in New York, at SAB, but he submitted a video valedictory address to be played during the ceremony.
