Marshall Fundamental Secondary School is hosting Shadow Days for potential Middle and High School students.

      By Felita Kealing

This is Marshall Fundamental’s first time hosting a Shadow Day. Several new and potential families wanted a more personalized experience when making their school choice. They agreed and decided hosting a Shadow Day would be another way for students to have a firsthand experience of the environment and culture.

Marshall Fundamental provides educational services for students in grades 6 – 12, delivering Middle School and High School curriculum.  We have served Middle and High school students on the same campus for 40 years and feel confident the systems works. In addition to academics, our arts and music programs are available to middle and high school students.

      Marshall Fundamental

Marshall Fundamental Secondary School is located in a residential area of northeast Pasadena and serves students from the diverse communities of Pasadena, Altadena, Sierra Madre, and nearby unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Marshall contains both a middle school and high school, spanning grades 6 through 12. Admission to Marshall is determined by lottery. All prospective families must apply for a permit through Open Enrollment to be admitted. While Marshall does not have an attendance zone, students living in the “neighborhood preference” area are given priority consideration for 50% of all available seats.

      Why choose Marshall?

Earlier this year the question was posed to students and families, “Why they chose Marshall?” Some of the parents responded with, “It represents our city, strengthens our community, and bolsters our neighborhood pride.”  “Commitment to our students and families. I chose it as an educator because I recognize the excellence it strives for and the amazing scholars it turns out.” and “Combination of arts and academics. It was the right fit for our family.”

Students responded with, “It has many opportunities for me to grow. All the students and staff members are so supportive and the school is so encouraging.” “It challenged me with education and helped me become more prepared for my future. It also offers many opportunities such as the art program.” and “Its academic rigor.”

      Shadow Days

The community has spoken and Marshall is answering with this invitation to join them on one of their Shadow Days and explore for yourself.

Pasadena Unified School District’s Open Enrollment lottery begins on Thursday, January 9, 2020. Marshall Fundamental has a total of 505 projected available seats for 2020 -2021 School Year. The School Year 2020 – 2021 will be Dr. Mark Anderson’s 10th year as the Marshall Fundamental Principal.
