Alhambra Police officers responded to a Citibank branch after receiving reports of a man attempting to cash a $3,800 check that he claimed had been given to him by his godparents to pay for school tuition.

According to authorities, when asked about the name on the check, the man reportedly said it belonged to “Janet.” However, the check was issued to “Melissa,” raising concerns about the legitimacy of the transaction.

Bank employees told officers that the suspect attempted to deposit the check while identifying himself as Alexander Fernandez of Florida. He allegedly presented a Florida identification card during the transaction.

Investigators later contacted the owner of the check, who stated that she did not know anyone named Alexander Fernandez and had not issued a check to him.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Alhambra Police Department Jail. During the investigation, authorities determined that his identity was not Alexander Fernandez. He was subsequently identified as Travoir Walker of Los Angeles.

Walker was arrested on suspicion of forgery, grand theft, identity theft, and possession of a fraudulent identification card. The investigation remains ongoing.
