There is nothing like an award to make to a rainy day bright.

      By Garrett Rowlan

Such was the case at the monthly meeting of the PUSD where various individuals and students were congratulated for service and successful participation.

Among the individuals honored were Dr. Marisa Sarian, the District’s Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, who has been in the field as teacher, administrator, and Assistant Superintendent for thirty years. For her work in the graduate programs, Superintendent Dr. Brian McDonald called her “the North Star in what we do.”

Also Dr. Debra DeBuse was honored as an “unsung hero” for stepping into many administrative positions after her own retirement in 2015.

Among the students honored those who participated in the Black History Living Museum – African-American Parent Council, Math Field Day Gold Medal Winners, LEARNs Science Olympiad Winners, and the graduating seniors for Mentoring and Partnership for Youth Development.

The session ended before closed sessions with a plea to approve certain health benefits for Pasadena teachers.
