Magnolia blooms are everywhere now and it is always a treat to see their beautiful flowers as one moves about the San Gabriel Valley in February and March.

The trees lose all of their leaves in December and then grace their barren branches and our winter skies with their brilliant color.
I have an Ann Magnolia in my front yard that is the most common purple-red flower you see in our neighborhoods. The petals always leave a carpet of pink for me that reminds me to look up and enjoy my tree on my way into my home.
In Chinese and Japanese cultures, the magnolia tree symbolizes purity and nobility. For me, it marks my favorite time of year when we see the stunning color of the magnolia blooms against our bright blue California sky.
Michael Lawrence loves to roam the desert and enjoy the company of plants.
