Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC) will present its annual Spring Concert, a musical celebration of hope and joy, with performances scheduled for Sunday, May 10, and Sunday, May 17, at 7:00 pm. Both concerts will take place at Pasadena Presbyterian Church.

      By Melanie Hooks

Part of the organization’s 40th anniversary season, the program showcases approximately 400 choristers drawn from six of LACC’s ensembles. The concerts highlight a blend of classical masterworks and contemporary compositions that reflect the choir’s artistic journey over the past four decades.

The May 10 performance will feature the Apprentice Choir, Intermediate Choir, and Chorale. Audiences attending the May 17 concert will hear the Concert Choir, Young Men’s Ensemble, and Chamber Singers.

Repertoire for the series includes selections by renowned composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Giuseppe Verdi, Sergei Rachmaninoff, George Frideric Handel, Franz Schubert, and Allister MacGillivray, alongside a variety of international folk songs.

Artistic leadership for the performances includes LACC Artistic Director Malvar-Ruiz, who will conduct the Chamber Singers, Chorale, and Concert Choir. Fred Meads will lead the Intermediate Choir, while Eric Lifland will conduct both the Apprentice Choir and the Young Men’s Ensemble, the latter offering a supportive environment for boys experiencing vocal changes.

Founded in 1986 with just 50 singers recruited for a performance of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem, the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus has since grown into a prominent cultural institution. Today, the organization serves more than 500 young people ages 6 to 18 from over 40 communities across Southern California through seven choirs and two introductory music programs. More than 30 percent of participants receive financial assistance.

Widely recognized for its artistic excellence, LACC has been praised as “hauntingly beautiful” by the Los Angeles Times and described as “one of the true artistic gems of Los Angeles” by conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

The 2026 season is supported in part by the State of California, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Department of Arts and Culture, the City of Pasadena, and several foundations and individual donors.

Tickets, priced from $15 to $52.80, are available at lachildrenschorus.org or by calling (626) 793-4231.
