Sure, we all know birds migrate. But with billions of airborne nomads flying above our heads each year, we could all stand to know a little more about what’s happening up there, especially before they land down here.

Next Wednesday, February 25, the San Marino Community Center will present the latest talk in its Nature Series: The Wonders of Bird Migration, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. The program promises to help attendees better understand, and appreciate, the annual flocks of feathered visitors that pass through our region.

Few spectacles in nature are as awe-inspiring as bird migration. Every spring and fall, billions of birds around the world travel hundreds, sometimes thousands, of miles. How do they navigate such vast distances? What compels them to undertake these extraordinary journeys?

Chris Spurgeon of the Pasadena Audubon Society will explore these questions and more, highlighting the marvels of migration and the cutting-edge technology that is helping scientists learn more than ever before about how and why birds travel.
